Carlos Rolon, a 6 year old boy who was born with a heart defect, is awaiting a heart transplant at Boston Children’s Hospital. He had two open-heart surgeries before the age of two. On August 31 Carlos got very sick and was admitted to BCH where he will remain until he receives a new heart.
His only request, while he waits, was to receive Christmas cards. Breanna Roaix, one of our high school students, brought Carlos’ request to our youth and children’s groups. CHYG, Trailblazers, and D/C sent more than 30 cards to Carlos, along with our prayers and well wishes. As of December 10, Carlos had received 3,000 cards to read, and to adorn the walls of his room!
His mother, Sheena Cossette, said, “Thank you everyone who has reached out and is making my baby boy’s Christmas so special. . . I’m at a loss for words. What a blessing to be able to show and share how much nice and positive things that are being done instead of just reading negative stuff- heartache and pain.” And, when speaking about organ donation, she said, “It’s the greatest gift you’ll ever give. The gift of life.”
May the Lord answer this family’s biggest prayer for a new heart, and let us always be in prayer for our loved ones, neighbors, and peers who are in need of a new spiritual heart. God is the only one who changes people, who gives them a new heart and a new spirit. May we always be filled with new life- by the Spirit; may we always love, respect and honor all people; and may God’s love be so evident in us that the world will know Jesus was sent for them, and for all people, to have a new heart in him.
In Christ, Pastor Tim
