Pastor Gary Freimuth (Congregational Care)

The Covenant Church of Thomaston has been my church home for many years. I attended Sunday school, graduated Confirmation and have served on many church boards and committees, including Vice-Chair of the Church, Chair of the Trustees, Chair of the Diaconate and, lastly, served as the Chair of our 125th Anniversary committee in 2015-2016.

My greatest joy has been the creation and leading of our Men’s Ministry program, which serves the widows, widowers and elderly of our church on a monthly basis and meets weekly for a men’s Bible study.

In 2012 I was licensed by the denomination to serve as a Bi-Vocational Pastor, where I enjoy serving where and when needed. I am also the “Pastor” (we already had a Chaplin) for the Northfield Volunteer Fire Company, where I have been a member for over 40 years, performing nuptials, funerals, hospital visitations, and prayers when requested, even a service for the blessing of our new fire truck.

Away from church I have been blessed to have served on many Tres Dias, Kairos Outside and Aventura teams and weekends. It was while serving on a healing ministry team in 2010 that my call to the ministry was powerfully confirmed.

“Bi-vocational” means I work for a living outside of the ministry. I graduated Paier Collage of Art with honors, which led to working in the field of graphic design and fine arts. I was offered a job working for ESPN, but what were the chances a 24-7 sports channel was going to last? So of course I turned it down. I tired of the advertising but continue to enjoy any aspect of fine art painting, especially working in water colors.

Lastly, but with equal importance – because it pays the bills – I paint houses and for over 30 years have been both the president and sexton of the Northfield Cemetery, which is in the village of Northfield where I grew up and have lived my entire life.
